Yes, this year's ATTA Workshop will be held at the top end. So pack your wide brimmed hat and get ready for a tropical adventure.
Marianne St Clair is the main organiser this year, and she has made sure that there will be plenty of items in the program that reflect the unique nature of the Northern Territory, including cultural tours, presentations by indigenous trainers, and various government funding opportunities. Marianne is the Executive Officer with the Northern Territory Primary Industries Training Advisory Council (PITAC), so she has an in-depth knowledge of who's who in the forest and forest products industry throughout the Territory.
In addition to the region-specific items in the program, there will also be a wide range of presentations by industry bodies and government agencies on general issues of relevance to our industry.
And we will be holding a session on training and assessment strategies, where RTOs and trainers will be able to discuss the training resources, delivery methods and assessment tools they are using. This is an excellent way to validate your own strategies and assessment tools, and to demonstrate to your RTO registering body that you have benchmarked them against industry best practices.
Special accommodation prices have been arranged for ATTA members staying at the Alaitai Holiday Apartments, Darwin. The details are shown on the accommodation booking form.
Austimber 2008 – Mt Gambier, 3-8 March 2008
Several ATTA members attended the Austimber 2008 Expo, including Rob Rule, Stuart Rayson, Ian McLeod, Brendon Purdom, Charlie Waites and Marianne St Clair. The Expo showcased the latest ideas and technologies being used in the industry and was organised by the Australian Forest Contractors Association, in conjunction with the Institute of Foresters, the Australian Sawmilling Industries, machinery suppliers and forest growers in Australia.
ATTA shared a stand with LITA, and information brochures were handed out to interested people. The members who helped out reported that there was a lot of interest shown in training. Charlie Waites has suggested that ATTA look into the prospect of having its own stand at the next Expo, scheduled for 2012.
